An industry first, new halogen-free material means no bromine of any kind

OCONOMOWOC, WIS. – ORBIS Corporation, an international manufacturer of sustainable reusable packaging and an expert in supply chain optimization, today announces it has received approval from Factory Mutual Insurance (FM) for a new non-halogenated fire-retardant material, for use in its family of FM-approved, fire retardant pallets. Effective immediately, ORBIS will offer this FM-approved halogen-free (HF) material in more than 18 pallets. Included among those are the 40 x 48 HF RackoCell® Pallet, which can edge-rack up to 2,200 lbs in the 40 inch direction in ambient temperatures.

“ORBIS is dedicated to developing solutions that work for companies across a variety of industries. Our pursuit of this material, and its subsequent approval by Factory Mutual, puts our reusable plastic pallets at the forefront of the industry,” said Curt Most, senior product manager for ORBIS plastic pallets. “It was crucial that we created a halogen-free (HF) pallet that met environmental safety regulations, without compromising the material performance our customers have come to expect. We are proud to offer the industry one of the first approved halogen-free solution for fire-retardant pallets.”

ORBIS has offered a family of FM-approved, fire-retardant pallets for use in specialized applications for nearly a decade. While halogenated compounds have commonly been used within plastic products, there has been a global push for manufacturers to eliminate halogens from their products.

ORBIS has been proactively researching and testing a fire-retardant material, with no bromine of any kind, as an offering to customers who wish to enhance the safety, health and environmental impact of their supply chains. The company is proud to announce it is one of the first in the reusable packaging industry to receive approval from FM on a new halogen-free material. All ORBIS FM-approved pallets can be manufactured in this new additive, making ORBIS one of the leading manufacturers in the reusable packaging industry using this innovative material, offering a more eco-friendly alternative to conventional pallets. ORBIS offers the widest variety of plastic pallets available in fire retardant material and also offers pallets in metal and x-ray detectable materials.
