Arlington, Va, Dec. 13, 2012 – Two dissimilar companies with a common interest in the value of reusables have joined the Reusable Packaging Association, broadening the Association’s reach and expertise.

Herman Miller produces inventive designs, technologies, and related services that are designed to improve the human experience wherever people work, heal, learn, and live. NOVA Chemicals develops and manufactures chemicals, plastic resins, and end-products that are designed to make everyday life safer, healthier, and easier.

“We are excited about the opportunity to collaborate with other companies that use reusable packaging and to understand how other markets design, implement, and manage their fleet of packaging,” said Cindy Doman, Packaging Engineering, Greenhouse at Herman Miller. “Up to this point, Herman Miller has used returnable packaging primarily for the transportation of parts to our assembly plants. We are now in the early stages of designing a returnable system to deliver our furniture to our end users and we feel that there is a lot of expertise in the RPA that Herman Miller could greatly benefit from as we progress with this project.”

Herman Miller’s curiosity, ingenuity, and design excellence create award-winning products and services, resulting in more than $1.7 billion in revenue in fiscal 2012. Innovative business practices and a commitment to social responsibility have also established Herman Miller as a recognized global company. A past recipient of the Smithsonian Institution’s Cooper-Hewitt “National Design Award,” in 2012, Herman Miller again received the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s top rating in its annual Corporate Equality Index and was also named, for the ninth consecutive year, to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index. The company was also named among the 50 Best U.S. Manufacturers by Industry Week. Herman Miller trades on the NASDAQ Global Select Market under the symbol MLHR.

Located in Monaca, PA., NOVA Chemicals develops and manufactures chemicals, plastic resins and end-products that are designed to make everyday life safer, healthier and easier. The company’s ARCEL® advanced foam resins are a robust platform of materials that provide solutions to a multitude of packaging and product challenges. The unique properties of ARCEL resins meet the needs for protective packaging and material handling, safety, automotive, recreational and other applications. ARCEL advanced foam resins’ performance characteristics include the stiffness of polystyrene and the durability of polyolefins. These attributes make this material ideal for multi-use material handling products such as dunnage trays, tote bins and pallets.
